Letters and Journals of Samuel Gridley Howe: Volume I: The Greek Revolution; Volume II: The Servant of Humanity

Boston: Dana Estes & Company, 1906. Hardcover. Writings of noted American physician, philanthropist, and social reformer. Samuel Gridley Howe (1801–1876). Volume I draws on Howe’s letters and diary entries from the 1820s, when he traveled to Greece to support the Greek struggle for independence from the Ottoman Empire, including battlefield conditions, political factions, and humanitarian crises, as well as Howe’s role as a surgeon and advocate for the Greek cause. Volume II covers Howe’s later life and career in the United States. Good. Item #9684

Retired library set with usual stamps and markings. (Properly deaccessioned with library's own withdrawal stamps.) Binding feel a little shaken and bindings are discolored and soiled along spines. All said, not an attractive set, but a solid reading copy.
